MESSY WORKSHOP BLOG HOP

My friends know that I’m a talker, not a writer. Oh, I may write the odd poem or short story, but that is where my patience ends.  So it will come as no surprise to some that I have let me blog slide…neither will it come as a surprise that I forced myself to update it by joining a blog hop.  There is nothing better than a forced deadline, where I have given my word and other people are depending on me, to kick my butt into gear. At the end of this post there will be links to the messy workshops of some very talented artists.  Please take some time to visit them and get inspired by their chaos.  Thank you to Brenda Sue Lansdowne for hosting this event.

In the past 2.5 years we have moved twice so I have let my jewelry workspace become very organic; by that I mean I have been lazy about setting it up in the near anal-retentive organization for which I am famous.  Friends who make fun of me for my love of “organizational tools” and The Container Store, will have to stop after these photos. Without further adieu, here is a glimpse behind the Windbent curtain.

The plan was to paint this room so it was still bare walls until I hung a calendar last month.  Some nice artwork (ceramic and paintings) still need to be hung.  I also have a dry erase/cork board that I used to use as my inspiration wall.  I will likely hang that over the shelving. To show you glimmers of my former neatness, let’s get a close-up on those shelves.

I do love using old jars for storage.  I also bough some reclaimed test tubes and Petri dishes from The Scrap Exchange in Durham, North Carolina.  The test tubes are great for seed beads and the Petri dishes I use to hold scrap, works in progress, or damaged jewelry/parts that people have given me until I figure out where I’m going with them.

Another thing I still need to do is hang a dowel on the wall for my chains.  Right now they’re thrown into the bottom of my tool container.

The various plastic bins in the room are filled with paint, wire, polymer clay, wood, steel wool, polishing clothes, glues, glitter, plastic mixing cups and sticks, bulk stones, and large pieces that will not fit in anything else.

At this point, I do have to admit that no matter how clean and organized the rest of the office, my actual work table tends to look like this all the time. I would love a jeweler’s bench one day…

This house is smaller than our last one so my husband has a few things thrown in.  He’s very sweet trying to take the blame for this mess but the truth is, here are the only things in the room that are solely his:

I’m looking for a bookcase to put in here so I can organize all the jewelry and art books, catalogs, and packing materials I have.  I also have a table and displays for when I sell at an event. What a mess!
